A host of self-care approaches can help us face distress. All these means can be used with or without medication, according to what each person decides is right for them.
These approaches that we often call "alternatives", are only limited by our imagination. They allow us to take care of ourselves and get out of isolation. To heal our wounds and improve our quality of life.
They range from physical exercise and healthy eating, to spirituality, relaxation techniques, peer support groups, therapy, artistic and leisure activities, dreamwork, community involvement, etc. Each person decides for themselves the approaches that suit them best. And these can vary according to periods, seasons, context, etc.
Many community organizations offer or facilitate access to these activities. Check out what they offer! Here is some information and testimonials about these alternatives.
